Y4O wants to share with you some of our team’s favorite summer reads! Whether you are college-bound, freshly graduated, or just living your best summer here are some books that are bound to make your summer more memorable!
Terry, Y4O founder, recommends I don’t have enough faith to be an atheist by Norman L. Geisler and Frank Turek. Terry says, “this is the best book for understanding why Christianity is the most reasonable explanation for life’s biggest questions”. The authors argue Christianity is not only more reasonable than all other belief systems but is indeed more rational than unbelief itself. WOW! This book does an excellent job of providing conviction along with clear thinking in its vast and thorough theological stands.
Jennifer, co-founder, who is a big reader states Christian fiction is her go-to! Authors she loves are Frank Peretti, Ted Dekker, and John Aubery Anderson. They provide powerful ways to go to war with prayer and the word of God. Jenn enjoys both fiction and nonfiction books, often at the same time! She adds “I am really enjoying my current read, Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus by Nabeel Qureshi. It is showing me how each of us can share the Gospel in incredible ways.”
Sage, Y4O Creative Director, says when she thinks of summer reads the top recommendation is Everybody Always by Bob Goff. This book made its first impact on Sage’s life a few years ago. Through showing her how to understand God’s love fully it has taught her how to love other people better. “Everybody Always helped me to see who we are called to be even in the most extreme cases of interacting with those who are hard to love,” says Sage. This book holds multiple short stories from the author’s life. Goff also provides moments of reflection and connection through his inspiring journey.
Rebecca, our Biblical Studies Intern, raves about another Bob Goff book, Love Does. Again, through personal stories, Goff demonstrates how we don’t have to overthink what “loving our neighbor” looks like. Rebecca says “This book showed me how simple it is to love your neighbor as Jesus called us to do. It was a good reminder that love can be shown in the most ordinary moments”. Through humor and encouragement, this book really puts the love of Jesus into action.
Brittany, Communications Intern, has personally been impacted by Hit It! By Kristi Overton Johnson. Kristi uses her life and career as a professional water skier to witness the Gospel. This memoir provides encouragement that everyone faces challenges, yet we are all in charge of how we navigate them. “This book showed me our response to trials is completely our responsibility. A moment of failure doesn’t prevent a lifetime of victory” shares Brittany. Through the author’s own stories from her 30-year career, she shares lessons and experiences that are relatable to everyone.
A visit to the library may be well overdue! We hope our recommendations are just what you need to stay encouraged and engaged this summer. If you have a recommendation you would like us to share on our social media please email firstname.lastname@example.org
